Clara my super layer has laid 2 soft eggs, one yesterday and one today. Why do they suddenly do this? She seems perfectly happy otherwise. Should I be worried?

I wouldn't worry too much about her, I think it's just the strain of laying so many eggs that's meant she hasn't had enough calcium to lay really strong eggs. However I'd advise you to feed your hens some mixed grit/oyster shell if you aren't doing so already.

A bit of limestone flour, available from equestrian shops or as sold for reptiles on ebay will work wonders as it is pure calcium carbnate and easily absorbed.

 

A dessertspoonful added to a grubful of pellets should help.

Dippy my super layer does this from time to time too. I feed mine super mixed corn which has quite a high grit content and most of the time they are fine, I think they just get a bit worn out
