My new girls wanted to range free! Who am I to argue?!?

Recommended Posts

I picked up my 2 lovely little ducks last Saturday, and they have been doing incredibly well.

With a little persuasion, just me following behind (they are terrified of people!), they now go into their converted rabbit-hutch at about 8pm, and come running out when they are let out in the morning.

I had them penned in with the spare chicken netting I bought from Omlet ages ago for the chooks. Anyway - they were fenced off on 2 sides, and the other 2 sides were the eglu cube run.

On Monday, after they had only been with us for 2 days, I noticed they were wandering about in teh garden - this worried me a bit, as the garden hadn't been duckling-proofed, I didn't know what the chooks would make of them if they decided to escape as well, and I didn't know if they could handle the cat yet...

By this time, it was near bed-time for them anyway - so thought I would grab them, and put them in their house.

This was fine - I had them cornered with chicken netting around 2 escape routes.... they dashed for it... and PLOP - straight through.

That is how they have been free-ranging themselves ever since!

Needless to say, I have now duckling-proofed the garden, and witnessed that both chickens and cats are terrified of the little darlings, so I am quite happy for them to free-range.

The netting is coming down at the weekend!

Bless them! :D
