beach chick
I know someone has been brave enough to cut their omlet netting, and just wanted to ask if you sealed the cut ends in any way? I've got to cut some broken bits out of mine, and then get some new poles and keep the rest so that I have some spare to use inside my leccy fence when/if I do new introductions... thanks in advance! Gamebird
I have never had to cut my electric fencing but I can't think why the ends would need to be sealed.
Hen Watch
I cut mine and didn't seal the ends. Suppose you could just fold the cut end over and make sure the cut side faces outwards away from the chicken's side of the fence.
urbanchick
I cut mine and didn't seal the ends. I do find them prickly to handle now though so would seal them if I knew how.
beach chick
sorry, should have said: the 'old' omlet netting will be used inside the leccy fence, to give any new girls a smaller space of their own inside the safe zone during intros. it wont be electrified. I just didnt want to cut it in case it all fell apart; but sounds as if it will be ok - thanks all!
chickenlass
Well I have made two areas for my exisiting Ex batts and my new Ex batts by chopping the nettng in half...had no probs so far and had not even thought of the ends needing sealing ...but if I were too I would perhaps singe them with a match or dip them into melted candle wax?? Olly
I didn't bother, but easiest way would be to heat them briefly with a cigarette lighter.
Gallina
There's no need to seal the ends: but I would advise people not to cut the Omlet netting. You may decide later that you want to make a bigger pen. You can run the excess along a fence or double back on yourself to make an extra-secure pen. Once it is cut, that is it. (Guess who wishes she hadn't cut it.)
