Don't know of any breeders in your area but regarding the breeds, what about pekins? If your son wants them as pets, they are wonderful, full of character and totally entertaining little birds. My Mrs. Beeton is a cheeky madam who pinches dried fruit and raids the conservatory regularly. I wouldn't be without her.

Many Thanks

I will pass this info on to him I have just had a read and look at them on the Omlet breeds section I think this is the sort of birds he is looking for! he spotted a Silkie free ranging in someones garden and was Very taken with it! the Cochin look so pretty could they be mixed with big girls ie pepperpots ? I wouldnt mind a couple of them myself ?

Regards

There is Moorlands Poultry supplies in Leek. Not sure which area of derbyshire you need. I am in Chapel en le Frith (near buxton), and I got my 4 hens from there, and I love them. I would be interested in any other suppliers locally though.

I did go to chelford market this morning, they auction poultry - it was really interesting and had lots of different breeds, including ex-batts with few feathers etc. you would have to make sure they were vaccinated etc though.

My breeds are:

2 Sussex, (one black and one white), a moorlands ranger, and a legbar. the legbar lays wonderful double yolkers about once a week in a green shell. the ranger follows me everywhere like I'm the pied piper ! and they all eat out of my hand and are very friendly and hilarious !

Although I'm new to this too - only been at it around 4 weeks !

Good luck.
