Clur
Our girls are the same breed, fed the same diet, have plenty of limestone flour, access to grit, wormed regularly etc. One of them lays eggs you need to take a sledgehammer to, and the other lays really thin shelled eggs (and one of them is just lazy and doesn't lay regularly!) All are healthy so don't think there's anything to worry about, just find it strange. Is there any reason behind this?
chucknette
Hi You could add some codliver oil to the feed to help her absorb the calcium. If she is young and hasnt been laying for long it could be that she is just getting her laying tackle into gear but needs a little help. I put about a table spoon into the feed and it will look like it has disappeared. You could try this a couple of times a week. Hope this helps
Clur
Fantastic idea - thanks, I'll get some over the weekend!
Sarah B
As well as this problem I'm getting teeny eggs and whoppers and soft and broken shells with my Tikka, she used to do strong brown eggs and now if I get one its white shell and thin. Most of them come early and are dropped in the evening or in the run in the morning? I knew it was a calcium problem and she is young but she has been on extra shell grit and limestone flour for ages and it's still the same. Thanks so much for the cod liver oil idea I will get some tomorrow
