She can't possibly be ready to lay, can she?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, one of our chicks (ok, she isn't a chick anymore, she's a pullet) is acting a bit odd. She is 18 weeks old now and looks as if she is ready to lay, but she still looks very young. For the past 2 days she has been walking around the run with this frantic look on her face and keeps jumping up in the air, which is what Magic and Clover did when they first started laying. She also keeps going up cube ladder, but doesn't go in, only because they where only introduced to the flock last weekend, so aren't 'allowed' up there yet.

Her face looks very immature, she is quite a big girl now, but has a pale face/comb/wattles :?. I don't think she is crouching, but she is so tame, I don't really have to pick her up, she just flies on my arm .

Also because she is a Cream Legbar, I expected her to lay at about 27 weeks plus, as they take longer don't they?

Anyway, here is a picture of her taken yesterday, doesn't she look to young?

What do you think?

Ahhh, yes the pictures I deleted them by accident and haven't had a chance to re-upload them .

The eggs should be blue, since she is a pure Cream Legbar. If not then I'll have to let the people where we got her from know, as she is from breeding stock. They don't want to be breeding non-blue egg laying cream legbars.

Either way she's a lovely little lady, so I'll be happy either way.
