My advice would be to read the FAQs on this forum first, then you'll be clued up with everything you need to know to start off with. How exciting. Good luck.

(Oh, and piccies of your new girls when they arrive will go down really well on here - we love 'em!)

After you have looked at the FAQs, you won't have quite so many queries and will be able to make your questions more specific. If you tell us more about what you are planning to do, you will be inundated with replies.

The basic information the forum needs before you start your questions is:

Are you getting the small Eglu or the big Cube?

Are you planning to move it around?

How many hens are you getting? How old will they be? Are they Omlet hens?

Are you planning to let your hens free-range?

The main thing is not to panic. We all learnt as we went along. The only thing you should be paying attention now is the best place to put the run, because it is much easier to do this before it is full of hens.

Thank you for helping! I'm getting a eglu, wanted a cube but thought I better start small.

I'm getting 2 hens as well. Everything is arriving from Omlet on the 22/08.

I was planning to keep them in one place at the end of my garden. I'm unsure about them roaming around when I'm not there to keep an eye on them though. I'm also very worried that my neighbours wont approve. Will they make much noise?

i checked with all my neighbours before I ordered from Omlet. I dont know whether I would have held back if any of them had objected. I think I said something like 'I am getting some chickens' and asked them if they had chicken phobia. As it happened, on one side, they had both grown up on a farm. My other neighbours next door and opposite were as excited as I was and rushed around as soon as they saw the Omlet van leave!

I am planning to have a chicken 'at home' sometime over the summer holiday with cups of tea and chicken themed sandwiches, biscuits and cakes, although most of the neighbours have already popped in for a look!

Yeah it is a good idea to check neighbours! Also sometimes in your house deeds it says no livestock to be kept! I don't really know why or what happens if you do keep chooks but thought it worth a mention!

Our neighbours at the back of us had chickens before us so are great for giving tips and I know all the kids love peeping over the wall to see the new baby chicks!

Good luck and take lots of photos to show us all!
