Gas and Elec rises

Recommended Posts

Olly, the reason we cannot do it is because we would need an internal flue, leading to an external flue at ceiling height. I would then need to get planning permission as the external flue would be on view. But the main prohibition would be that our house has an extremely high apex roof - it would mean that, after leaving the side of the house, the chimney/flue would need to continue for another 3 metres to clear the apex. It would need anchoring with guy ropes and therefore we would be unlikely to get the planning permission, as well as becoming prohibitively expensive. Our only real option would be to have a chimney built (again expensive  )

oh what a shame! I thought woodburners were a good solution for most people precisely because they don't need a chimney, but your house must be a little bit unusual.

Tina, I did consider opening up the space myself, but to be honest I decided if I'm going to Get A Man In, then he may as well do the whole job. It would still need making good, and it may need enlarging, and they're fitting a hearth as well. This way, if anything goes wrong it's their problem, not mine!

Sorry Tiggy, I missed your request about the 'Owl' monitor. See herefor a thread about it.

Should've done it the other day. Can't get through to any of them now - "high volume of calls"

This may be out of date already and I apologise if that is so. However, my Mum wanted to switch, left it late and on Friday (1st) pm all the comparison websites had pulled the Scottish Power rate and it wasn't on their own website either. But she telephoned them direct at 5pm Friday (after holding for ages) and she managed to get the Scottish Power Fixed Price Energy 2009 Gas & Elec Cap on the phone.

The number is 0800 400 200. Not sure if it's gone now though.

Our gas water heating has been broken for about a week now - just think of the money I am saving!!!!!

As of September - my husband will be working away, both kids will be at boarding school on weekdays, so if I shower at the gym I can go without hot water, and visit enough friends I can probably turn the heating off too! Now THAT is frugal living!
