Mumpty
While I'm waiting for my chickens (a few weeks yet), I am thinking of all sorts of chicken related things and I just wondered about vacinations. I know that the chickens will be vaccinated when I get them, but is that it then? or do you have to have them done yearly like cats and dogs and do they need to be wormed or only when you notice a problem? So many questions, I seem to spend hours on this forum.
Snowy
Hens are vaccinated as chicks and do not need any further vaccinations throughout their lives. Beware if you buy from a small breeder - it is unlikely that their stock will have been vaccinated (it is done to flocks of thousands rather than a handful). It isn't a problem, just something you need to be aware off.
Mumpty
Thanks for the advise, I'll double check that they are definately vaccinated.
Hen Watch
If you get chickens from Omlet they are vaccinated. I got an extra chicken from a Meadowsweet agent in High Wycombe who sells vaccinated hybrids. http://www.croftersfarm.co.uk Worming - Take a look in the FAQ section as there is loads of info on worming. I personally worm mine every 4 months.
