chickencam
My OH has a swollen cheek which was a soft tissue infection a couple of months back and he was given a penicillin based antibiotic and he reacted to it with a rash and then when the rash cleared all the skin on his hands and feet peeled, very odd. The box for those tablets is pinned to our kitchen notice board with the word yuk written on it to remind him never to take them again Glad things are on the mend and good luck for Friday. redhotchick
The antibiotics will help a lot. Rinse with salt water 2 or 3 times a day (that usually helps too). Come Friday. Relax, take a deep breath and open wide. It will be fine, concentrate on your breathing, think about something nice and it will be over before you know it. I have had bad reactions to vaccinations before and and find it always helps to warn the nurse/doctor that you are (very) nervous. Good luck x
BeckyBoo
D Day is here I didn't think I'd be worried but I didn't sleep well and one of my many dreams was about the dentist although I can't remember the details. I'm actually really nervous, the dentist has just rung to ask if I can go in early at all so I'm waiting for my mum to get here to look after the children. Honestly, I've had three children for goodness sakes, what's to worry about! I'm having to put on a brave face in front of the children as the last thing I want is for them to get my fear. Wish me luck Mrs B
MedusA
Thinking of you, Mrs. B. Hope it goes well. *hugs*
Olly
hopefully it's over by now, and it wasn't nearly as bad as you were dreading ... in fact I'm guessing the dentist went 'that's it' and you were still wondering when he was going to take it out. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
BeckyBoo
Well, it's out, and whilst it isn't on my wish list of things to do every day, or every week or even every year it was absolutely fine. The thought of it was FAR worse than the actual event itself. I held hands with the large, black dental assistant called Sam who was rather nice (any excuse ) and apparently nearly broke his hand. So, having dosed myself up with Nurofen (he said it might be a bit sore later on which I think is dental speak for it's gonna hurt like h**l later!) I am now trying not to stick my tongue in the big hole in my mouth and looking forward to my trip to the doctors this afternoon (yearly girly check, getting it from both ends today! ) All you dental phobes, fear not it's nowhere near as bad as toothache! Goosey Lucy
Maybe she had to go to the cashpoint? Have you tried dropping a few hints? Glad it wasn't as bad as you thought it might be.
Richard
....As a sideline, why aren't teeth and eyes part of the NHS anymore? Fairly fundamental to health care I would have thought? Mrs B Sorry, can't let this go by. Teeth are still part of the NHS. Your Primary Care Trust (PCT) has a responsibility to provide you with NHS dental care. If you can't find an NHS dentist by yourself you should contact your PCT and insist that they find one for you.
BeckyBoo
So why does everyone say that they can't get an NHS dentist then? A friend of ours, who also didn't have a registered dentist, had horrendous toothache a week or so ago and because it was a weekend was faced with the prospect of paying £120 to have basic emergency treatment on a Saturday AND having to travel 40 miles each way to get it! When I rang dentists to try and get an appointment I was told September the 18th I'm going because I'm going to register but it won't be NHS - no one takes on NHS patients round here, presumably their lists are full of private patients so they don't bother with NHS. Mrs B don't ring the dentists. ring the PCT to find out who the NHS contracts are placed with. As I said, PCT's have to provide NHS treatment for their population. they place the contracts - and should tell you which dentist to go to. I was speaking to someone from a PCT who said there were stories in the paper about folk from their area not being able to find an NHS dentist, when the PCT had unfilled contracts placed! ring your PCT.
