It goes on to say it's not a good idea and I was just about to say, people generally ignore car alarms over here as they're always going off by mistake

 

Am I missing something?

I think the idea is that any deterrent is better than no deterrent.

 

if someone is breaking into somewhere and there is the chance that they will be seen, they are likely to abort the mission (if there is a loud noise - there is a chance that someone else could be looking in that general direction )

 

I think thats what it means anyway.

How does that work? I can't activate the car alarm from the keyfob, didn't know you could do that, or is it just more modern cars and not my old banger? (all I would succeed in doing is unlocking the car for them to use as a getaway vehicle!) Good idea though

Exactly! If I were a criminal (breaking the law) I don't think I would just ignore a car alarm if it was going off in the general vacinity. Also there were many other safty tips that might go over looked.
