at what age should we start to feed our girls on layer pellets.

I started mine on Layers at about 22 / 23 weeks, they weren't quite laying yet.

 

Some on here have waited until they've started laying

Same here. I was told to start mixing in layers pellets to the growers pellets at 18 weeks, until I'd run out of growers, then they could have layers all the time.

mine have been on layers since i got them and they were 15 weeks. oops.

Mine were 16 and 18 weeks and were on layers pellets from then (don't know what the farmer gave them though ).

I'd say, as above, start adding a little layers into the growers at 18 weeks, and transfer by mixing progressively more layers/less growers together over 4 wks or so.

I think growers with coccidosant (spelling?) is problematic as the eggs are tainted and not wise to eat.

It's OK to use medicated chick crumbs or growers' pellets as long as you are keeping the chicks separate from your main flock. Even if they have a mother with them, it's only a problem when she starts laying again.

 

I think it's best to give chick crumbs with medication against Coccidiosis, and then go over to non-medicated growers' pellets: they look just the same as layers' pellets, and it would be easy to muddle them.

 

I think the word you wanted was "coccidiostat": I had to look it up to check. The dictionary definition is: "A substance administered to poultry to retard the growth and reproduction of pathogenic coccidia".
