kayandrob
We picked up the chickens today 3 Pekin Bantams, they are soooo cute but only 8 weeks old, lady said it was fine for us to have them at this age, anyway got them home fine and they have been checking out the eglu, we have seen them eating their food but they haven't drank anything, we sat out with them but at 7 they put themselves to bed so we have just shut the eglu door but wonder if it was a bit early still or if its ok they go to bed at this time? I was worried they hadn't had a drink though?? Any advice pls. Thanks Kay Will post some pics in a mo
Angels4
I'm sure someone will be along with more experience, but I think I've heard that after transport you could put a little sugar in the water. Please don't quote me though as that might be just for baby chicks.
Egg Lou
Could they have drunk while you are not watching? perhaps try a couple of different drinking bowls as they may not be used the one you have. I personally wouldn't worry about going to bed early.. my 4 week old pekins go to bed with mum about 6.30 as think they just get tired! kayandrob
I went out and put a little saucer with a small amount of water in the eglu just in case, we didn't get them home until about 4.30ish and I def didn't see them drink neither did hubby but they were quite timid, when I popped the water in they were all snuggled up in bed together but were in the nest area, they are so tiny though bless. tenzin
Try not to worry , they'll drink when their ready . You'll be a cracking chicken keeper from the sounds of it as you're already worrying about them . If you're still concerned in the morning , give them milk they'll drink fresh milk all day , plus a drop of natural greek yogurt is good for them .
