BeckyBoo
Just thought I'd share with you my Freecycle / freebie weekend. Started off with a load of blackberry picking, then went and collected a pine coffee table from Freecycle - thought it would be one of those chunky old ones and was going to have a go at learning how to get that distressed look on wood, but no, it was brand new and immaculate so it's now in the front room where OH's feet have already found a resting place Then went for MORE blackberries and as I pulled up in the car saw a white chair with a carrier bag and a sign saying "free victoria plums help yourself" so I did, then got more blackberries! Then today went and collected probably 12-14lb of cooking apples and 3lb of eating apples, again from someone advertising on Freecycle and now have been contacted by three people who are collecting babyfood jars for me so I can make up hampers for Christmas. AND tomorrow am off to collect a Thomas the Tank Engine first train set and two diggers from ANOTHER freecycler for smallest boy!! Tomorrow I will be making blackberry jam, bramble jelly, pectin stock, apple sauce and apple cake! I love weekends like that Mrs B
Egluntyne
You will need an extra shelf in the larder! Things always taste so much better when a) you've made them yourself and b) they cost nowt.

Cate in NZ
Sounds like a great weekend and very industrious . I bet your store cupboard looks with all those jars of home made produce. We were out on Saturday and saw a sign "Free Avocados- please help yourself" outside someone's driveway....I was gutted because I'd only stopped a few doors down to buy a bag of 7 avocados for $2 (about 65p), and I couldn'y justify taking any more since I don't know of any way of preserving avocados
