sulky chooks ?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Having just got back from holiday my eldest daughter who was the chook

sitter said at most she only got 3 eggs out of the normal 5 I get each day

I was really worried checked them all over for lice, mites etc nothing :!:

I would like to think it was because they missed there mummy :) but I think they are far too mercenary  instead Ithink they were just sulking at not being able to free range all day every day as since I have been home we are back to our usual quota of eggs :!: Anyone else found the same thing :?:

On the plus side though my lawn had virually recovered from there scratching & digging exploits when they were in the eglu and on my lawn which and is now lush and green.

Now there in their permnant sited cube and freerange lots they cause far less damage :!:

My three chooks had been laying an egg each every day since April :D Then, earlier this month, my three children went away for a weeks holiday. All was well for a couple of days. Then egg production started getting later and later each day until we had a 1 egg day and a 2 egg day :( When the children returned the chooks went back to 3 eggs a day and we now get our three eggs before 10am as before :D

The children seemed very pleased with this (after we reassured them that we had not been mistreating their pets  ). They also reminded us that when we all went on holiday in June our lovely chicken sitter got her 3 eggs a day without fail. I put this down to the quality of treats she gave them  and the fact that she brought her little daughter with her to 'help' with the chookies.

My chickens definately like me as the great provider of food (I only have to open the back door for them to hurtle across the garden at high speed) but it seems that they also benefit from the company of three noisy children belting round the garden and stopping occasionally to cuddle a nearby chook

We went away for a week and before that they were on a bit of an off time for egg production (1 or 2 a day). Our neighbour was chicken sitting and feeds them COOKED s"Ooops, word censored!"s and loads of extra treats and she got 3 eggs a day, the norm! They have gone back to giving us 3 a day, but it was quite funny at the time :D
