HELP - My Call Drake is Nasty!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all

My pair of call ducks are now 30 weeks old. I got Call ducks because they were reported to be easily tamed making great pets and they were to share our garden with the children. However, the drake has suddenly become really nasty and attacks everyone as soon as he catches sight of them. I think he is trying to protect his territory or his female but, although I can shrug off an attack quite easily, it is very scary for the children and he has even given me a couple of nasty bites. I've tried just pushing him away every time he does it but it has been going on for a few weeks now and he doesn't seem to be learning. As a last resort, I called the person I bought them from who has offered to exchange him for another drake. As much as I don't want to lose him I don't think I have much choice. Does anyone know, if I swaped him, if a the female and a new drake would just get on ok? She goes mad if they are even out of sight of each other.

if you swaped him is there a chance the other drake could do the same. they only thing i could surggest it to pick him up as often as possible. hopefully he would learn that you are the boss?

I have 2 call drakes Im not sure how old they are but they do have their 1st curl in their tail. one nibbles the hell out of my hand but i think that as i put him in the hutch and handle him each day.

good luck in ur choice

My call duck drakes do this at the moment - they are small so it doesn't really hurt but they really do go for you - i suspect all drakes will at this time of year - so swapping for another wouldn't make much difference. I'm guessing its may be to do with the time of year as mine are lovely and friendly at other times. Mating season?!
