Morning!

 

Just let the girls out and there was a small softy that plopped through the roosting bars.... I know these are pretty common, and I've no idea who was responsible, Hariett has just laid her first egg this week on tuesday and 2 are not laying yet.... No one has been unwell or listlesss.... and we are on day 4 of flubenvet.... they have grit with oyster shell....

 

Is this OK? Should I add some limestone to the pellet???

i think it is ok when they are first coming into lay. I have had a softie most days for a week now and I have no idea who is laying it.

Don't worry at this stage. It will just be a blip....very common when they first come into lay.

 

My Amber Link laid a softie yesterday, and as you say, it plopped through the bars, and she didn't seen bothered in anyway.

There seems to be a lot of softie laying at the moment. I thought I was lucky, three of them laid this morning, and then at 4 ish I found a softie in the nesting box. Quite big, so I ate it in an omlette about 10 mins ago!

have just got my chickens - 4 days in and going to let out tomorrow

 

On the first day Ermintrude laid an egg despite us beng told that it would take three to four weeks however, went down to empty their tray this morning to feed the compost and found a perfectly formed egg but without a shell in the dirt tray .

 

Can someone tell me why this is and is it ok?
