Cinnamon
I got 3 lovely little Blackcurrant bushes from the farmers market on Thusday - only £1 each! And today I found a nice brown Turkey Fig. Now,that is all well & good, but I don't have much space & I am not sure what to do with them Will the Fig need support?I have a potential nice sunny spot for it in the front garden. Will the Currants do OK in big pots on the patio do you think?
Christian
I planted some cheap blackcurrant bushes in pots this year and they did really well. I did use ericacious (sp) compost as I heard it was better for currants. The brown turkey fig will grow to a massive plant if you don't restrict the roots. Either plant it in a large tub or dig a deep hole and line it with slabs to stop the roots. It will produce masses of leaves and little fruit if you don't stop the roots. Mine is in a pot and the stems are very sturdy, so don't need support.
Cinnamon
I had better go & get some more pots then! Thanks Chriatian - I especially like the idea of the Fig in a pot (I adore fresh Figs )
Lesley
I killed my 'fig in a pot' - I've planted the new one in a hole filled with rubble and broken slabs and it has new figlets ready for next year
