Angels4
This evening when I got home, I went to shut the Eglu door for the evening, and one of the girls, I think it was Clairee (as it was very dark) was not inside with the rest of the girls, instead, she was roosting in the run. I was able to climp through the Eglu run door (not and easy task I might add) and I was able to retrieve her and put her in through the egg port. While I was closing up the egg port I noticed a large white lump near to where my girl was laying (so again I climbed through the door of the Eglu run) and tried to pick up what was a soft shell egg. It just split open and the contents poured out. I understand sometimes I can expect a "softie". I was home all day with the girls and none seemed to be acting oddly, like I might expect a softie. I'm more concerned with the fact she wasn't with her sisters but chose to be outside the Eglu. Anybody have any thoughts?
Egluntyne
Probably just a blip. Maybe one of them had settled in the nest box and so dhe decided to lay the egg elsewhere.
jackiepoppies
Morning Mark, I am no expert but my inital thoughts were that she must feel quite content and secure to want to sleep on her perch After all.....perches preceded Eglus Egluntyne was browsing the forum just now, so if anyone knows, she will, but I wouldn't worry. Jackiex ps Do you have a forum in the states? Is it as good as ours
Egluntyne
There is a forum in the States **Here**. Not as busy as this one yet.....I imagine because there are fewer Eglu owners there. Very friendly though.
Gamebird
Hi Angels4 My Bluebelle, Annie, used to lay softies and still does on occasion. She would look very quiet and close her eyes as if sleeping and then out would pop a soft egg. She would carry on looking sleepy for another half an hour and then be back to normal. She always laid them in strange places and never in the nesting box. However, she does lay her normal eggs in the nesting box. It might explain why your girl was not with the others and why she laid her soft egg in the run.

Jackiex ps Do you have a forum in the states? Is it as good as ours We do have a forum here in the states, and from what I can gather the folks there are also very nice (it must be in most chicken keepers nature) but all I'm able to do on that forum is read. I haven't been able to log on there, everytime I try I'm told my name is password are invalid. Thanks for all of your thoughts. I'm glad she feels content enough to roost in the middle of the run. The soft egg, well I understand that one she did just start laying and her "laying tackle" is just getting started so no worries there. Maybe she tuckered herself out with the softie and it got dark before she could make it back in with the others.
