Guest
our garden is almost totally underwater and there's no sign of it stopping and the ruddy coop is leaking now. Ian has gone to B&Q to get some tarpaulin to cover it in. I rang omlet but they can't get the cube to us til 13th october, unless there's a cancellation anyone got any sway with Omlet and can get us moved up the queue? Otherwise we'll have to get the chickens some life jackets! It's awful out there!!!
The Spencers
Poet Aldi have some cheapish tarps in at the moment. About a fiver off the top of my head including rope to secure. Geoff

The Spencers
Just the eight-ish miles between Manchester and Stockport. Hope you manage to weatherproof your coop and the chickens get somewhere dry to sleep tonight!!! After this mornings trip I can vouch that life as a drowned rat isn't much fun! Jules.
Poet have you thought about getting a reconditioned cube? If they have what you want in stock then its only a case of them finding a delivery slot for you.
Sandychick
I came home from work to a complete chicken nightmare. Their run had been completely flooded, water was runnung through it like a river. It has washed all the Auboise out of the run. I have never seen anything like it. Most of the garden is under water and I have no where else to put them. They were all sat up on the perches when I found them. I've just spent 3 hours digging drainage ditches around the run. I've finally got all the water out and just hope this rain stops soon. Everything is covered in mud and silt. I like them to be really clean and it's really upsetting to see them in such a mess. Cyber Chook
Jules, just a thought, I don't know if Omlet have re-started selling reconditioned Cubes, but when I asked in April they'd stopped, as it wasn't proving to be worth their while. (Having bought one at full price now, I probably don't want to hear, actually, that they're selling cheaper ones ). Caroline

Guest
Nothing is cheap now a days but at least your girls will be warm and dry!. ...: oh definitely! It makes me laugh though, we got chickens to try and save some money but they've ended up costing a fortune in housing, bedding, food, treats, accessories, tonics, lotions, potions and powders, vet visits, and now the cube and 2m run we've ordered and the girls themselves were only 50p each! Gotta laugh!!! to me they're priceless though
The Brown Clan
I know what you mean poet , I've only had mine a few months but I would be lost without them , mine were a bit more than 50p( but still cheap still don't get why chickens so cheap to buy ) although the enjoyment they have given me so far is priceless( forgetting the pecking ) I love my girls and would be devistated if anything happened to them . though i think you got a bargain and we girls do love a bargain ( forgetting the cost of run housing etc) who cares I've got chickens !!!! Ardene5
Hi Everyone Before we got our eglu all our hens lived in the garden shed. The garden tools lived in the garage and the car outside on the drive. If you think about it a shed could answer your problems it is dry and safe. If only a temp. move for the hens. If you take apart the eglu you should be able to put it inside the shed therefore giving the hens somewhere to sleep which they know. We have been busy as we now have a cube and an eglu and with the help of Hy Fly Hatcheries we have a large 20ft x 10ft x 6ft winter run. The frame and roof were made by Hy Fly & the wire mesh was put on by Ian. He also add opaque pvc which has a nylon mesh in it. This allows the light through by not the driving rain. Air is allowed to flow through by the shape of the roof and having 2 x 10ft x 6ft sections of the run clear of this style of pvc mesh. So the cube butts upto the the run and the eglu lives inside the run. Last year we suffered with a partly flooded garden so when making the base it was raised by 7inches before the flags were laid. Also the shed was moved 14 feet to the left. It is an 8ft x 12ft shed and was not taken apart. Ian moved it with a car jack, 2 scaffolding style poles , a large metal pole & 2 large lengths of wood which went under the shed. (Now have cube extension for sale) There is still some more external flaging to do, as a path is needed to the cube and also the front of the run. We hope that every Omletteer & their chickens manage to get throw the very bad wet weather whithout too many problems. Best regards Ian & Valerie William & Harry Missy & Millie Dogs 9 hens Purple cube & Eglu with a winter run Edited September 5, 2008 by Guest
