Inspector Fox - a warning story

Recommended Posts

Last weekend my friend's son was at home, he'd been out in the garden and then came in, leaving the back door open as it was sunny. He went upstairs to get something, came down again - and there was a fox, IN the kitchen, ON the worktop, sniffing at the fruitbowl!

He said he doesn't know who was more surprised ... the fox then ran into the living-room, not out of the open back door, panicked and started trying to climb the bookcase. Eventually he got it out of the house. When my friend came home, she was astonished to find one of her slippers in the front garden, and the other one on the back lawn - she'd left them by the back door, and the fox had obviously taken them off for a play.

This was in the middle of the day, they live on a fairly busy road and right next to a tube line. Her son had been out in the garden and was in the house - it still didn't deter this fox from coming in to see what he could find. Please don't underestimate what Inspector Fox is willing to do in order to get food!

Oh my word!!! Sometimes I worry that I'm a bit paranoid only letting my girls out when I'm patrolling round them but stories like that make me realise that I'm not.

A friend of mine lives in the Kent countryside and says that I have far more problems with foxes than she does. Her lucky chooks free range most of the day whether they are at home or not.
