Harriet has just had a long labour! This is her second egg weighing in at 68g.

 

One of Blossom's is also in the phto her's is 34g, her smallest egg laid a few days ago.

 

Harriet is OH's hen, he'll be so proud. The egg was a bit bloody when we found it, is that normal for a large egg, I expect there was some straining going on.

Not unusual for a larger than normal egg to be a little blood stained, especially in a young hen.

Blimy that's a good sized egg for only her second one. Well done that chicken.

 

That is what a supermarket would class as "large".

 

Very large = 74g and over

Large = 63-73g

Medium = 53-63g

Small = 53g and below

 

Now mine have been laying ages, they always lay roughly 75g ish. So I know think of these as "normal" sized eggs and get surprised to be reminded how small supermarket medium eggs actually are. Especially as eggs sold in shops are graded by weight (not actual size).
