quickcluck
My girls have begun to drink from the top of the superglug, they jump up and perch very percariously, then dunk their heads in!!!! Is this OK? Should I just put it lower so they have to jump less or higher to get them to drink from the bottom. I have tried a water thingy that you put on the ground but they just kick mud into it and it's clogged up in a milli second? Any thoughts??? MadMitch
I have mine quite high so they have to raise their heads to drink from the nipples
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Some folks have reported nipple troubles where the hens just don't seem to work out what the nipples are for. I'd say if they look happy doing the head dunking, and you're happy, then they're fine. If you think about it, it's not that intuitive to suck a nipple for water if you're not a mammal. If you can keep it high enough to avoid them kicking any mess in, then that's fine. You should clean your glug/drinker out daily anyways, and chickens do have a tendency to default to making mess. So providing you clean their food and water recepticles daily, it doesn't really matter how they take their water, I'd say. It's different strokes for different chooks.
