why is there only 1 hole...

Recommended Posts

in the Cube divider ?

seems odd to me that being designed for 10 hens it only has the one hole... why not 2 ?

our 3 are often scrambling over each other, in the Eglu, to lay at the same time

surely this could be even worse in a Cube ?

just a thought... as we're contemplating ordering our Cube ready for the chicks moving in in 10 or 12 weeks

:) Good point, but it seems to work well. I've often seen 2 together (& poss. 3) ready to lay in the nestbox area, and they seem to have worked out a system for going in & out of the hole in turn.

Sometimes there are others waiting on the roosting bars, holding the handbags for their friends.

But, the hole is large, and they do seem to manage changing places without any problems. I think the area must feel comfortable & secure the way it is.

You'll love the Cube when they're ready. :D

I took my divider out. Actually, it came without one and Omlet had to post it to me. We put it in and then found that it mde it harder to check through the egg port that everyone was safely tucked up at night. So we removed it. It doesn't seem to affect egg laying at all. The only reason I might put it back is if we wanted to block it up to stop a broody getting into the nest box overnight.
