My ES started college on Monday, he's doing Animal Care and Management and he's loving it so far - however they want him to sort out his work placement this weekend! He needs to do 120 hours over 3 weeks in January and he needs to go back on Monday and tell them where he's going to do it!

 

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas I've suggested the local kennels but he said he'd like to go somewhere that has more than one type of animal. Our local farmshop / pets corner can't offer him enough hours as they only have low maintenance animals!

 

I've looked through the yellow pages but just can't come up with anything else, any suggestions?

What about local vets or animal rescue centres? Sorry, can't think where else...

How about the local stables?? Or a childrens adventure park? They usually have all sorts of interesting animals there. At ours, they have all sorts from spiders to horses!! This is really hard to think of things!!

I think some zoos offer work experience, though it might all be gift shop till work...

Whereabouts are you in Northamptonshire? What about Huntingdon Life Sciences?

I'll mention the vets and stables to him, can't think of any childrens parks with animals near here though. We're close to Daventry so I think we're quite a way from Huntingdon but thanks for all the suggestions so far.

How about a large farm near you if he cant find something in a vet/rescue centre? They will have a squillion different animals, not too exotic (break him in gently!) and he will certainly get an overview of animal management there! Plus one happy farmer.......

PS My Mum volunteers for the Cats Protection League in Cornwall, they always need help although its only for pussies obviously......

Also, try vets, pet shops, farms, can't think of any more at the moment. I sympathise, had this last year with my boy - hard to find good work placements
