CALNICK
need some advice please our girls are hardly eating there layer pellets since we took them off growers some 4 weeks or so ago. They were eating them quite well at first, however this week they have not eaten as many. We have been told that our girls should be laying at any time now and we are concerned about them not eating as much. We do feed them corn every other day and this tyey go mad for. Please help as we are concerned and really inexperienced to this whole think. Thanking you in anticipation Cal and Nick
Egluntyne
I'd be inclined to cut out the corn....it will be filling them up. Best to be ruthless for a few days and give them nothing but pellets, and a treat in the afternoon.....not corn.
chelsea
Yep agree with Eglutine. They obviously love the corn, if you cut it out/down a little bit if they are hungry they will eat their pellets. Little monkeys arent they?!
cordelia
I have a similar problem...my girls were approx 14 weeks when i got them, so I ahd to go and buy some growers pellets, at 16 weeks I put them onto the organic layers pellets...and they dont seem to like it as much, and pull it all out of the grub feeder and throw it on the floor..and leave it... they must eat some, but I've cut back on any treats, so only get the pellets...I even kept them in the run for a couple of days, instead of letting them free range,...but they still empty these new pellets all over the floor, unlike before when they just ate them... I am supposed to stop feeding the growers pellets from 16 weeks, as it says on the bag, and it was medicated, as it was all I could get locally so I guess I'll just persevere...sorry I cant be of any help... and I'll cut out the treats a bit longer.. jomaxsmith
My hens didn't seem to eat very much at all until they started laying. I agree with the others - cut out the corn completely as it is filling and takes a long while to digest. My hens get about a tablespoonful a few times a week.
