1st torpedo egg

Recommended Posts

My boss girl Priscilla has not been laying for the past couple of weeks as she has been going through a mini-moult.

The other morning we found an egg with no shell at all in the nestbox which we thought must be her coming back on line so crossed out fingers.

This morning she has layed again. A 71 gram torpedo with a sandpaper texture, owch  .

First odd shaped egg we've had so I was very pleased with my girl. Hopefully she will be back to normal now bless her.

Here is Priscillas's 1st torpedo on the left.

The egg she did this morning is in the middle, it's starting to look a bit more egg shaped.

The egg on the right belongs to Lillian, I put it there to show a normal egg but even she had a bit of a wobble today. She may be getting ready to stop laying for the winter as she is a light sussex.

The eggs are 71 gms, 65 gms and 73 gms from left to right.

I'm very proud of my girls even though it's been a bit of a funny shaped week. :D

Torpedo egg will be the first of many odd eggs to come.

I get almost round golf ball ones, torpedo ones, sandpaper ones, different colours (even from the same hen), ridges and rings around them so they look like Saturn - all sorts.

I now wonder quite how many supermarket eggs get rejected at point of lay and end up as product ingredients rather than sold as shelf eggs. Since my lot never lay perfect egg shaped eggs every day.

Good point Hen Watch,

all those poor battery hens are bad enough, but the thought of their eggs then being wasted due to them not being perfectly egg shaped!

I bet they just bin some of the weird ones, and torture those poor ladies for nothing.

Have to stop thinking about this now or I'm going to get too angry and upset
