Scooby
You will be pleased to know that we have sucessfully introduced our 4 big girls (soon to be 6) to our pekins. I will admit it was a bit hairy at first, but think that this is usual for any sized hens anyway. Just take it nice and slowly. We had to use ukadex on the littlies and one big girl had to wear a bumper bit for a while but thankfully we got through this rough patch. They are all happily living together in the cube now. The Dogmother
Be sure to have separate housing for the intro Sarah, and take your time introducing them. Be prepared that you might end up with two flocks if they don't mix.
welsh sarah
thanks claret i have got separate housing, so i thought i could put them in there with the eglu run attached and let the big girls free range around them but not be able to get at them, do you think that would be ok or do you think they will not mix easily. i did get the french copper marans to mix but i did take a long time before i put them all in together. i have no knowledge of pekins so i thought i would ask for advice before i take the plunge sarah
superjules
That's exactly what I did welsh sarah, mine went in the eglu and run inside the big run for a couple of weeks until the big girls had accepted them. Then I opened the eglu run with a lattice of canes so the littlies could get in and out but the big girls couldn't get in the eglu run. It meant the bantams had somewhere safe to run if they wanted some peace and quiet. My bantams do not have their wings clipped so they can utilise the height of the run better than the big girls too. They will take their own time and you'll know when they are ready to free range together. I have just integrated 4 new birds into the main flock 6 days after getting them - they still have two separate groups, but that'll change with time.
