Patridge bantam chicken poorly foot?

Hi there, I'm fairly new to chicken keeping but am loving it already!!! I have noticed some strange behavour when shutting them up at night. When I look in the coop I see Ruby, the boss hen, sitting ontop of the other chickens . The first night I thought one of the light sussex was dead but they were purring away? She was completely covering it and they werent moving about or struggling. Should I try to stop them? Also do all chickens purr? Mine seem to especially when having a dust bath or eating something they love.

Lots of chooks do this at night. They love getting as close as possible, especially as it gets colder. Whether top chook is also dispaying some dominance by sitting on top, I don't know. The purring thing is common too. As you say whilst dustbathing, sunbathing and times of contentment. Cute, ain't they?

ooo that is unusal..

when mine are cuddling up in their eglu on an evening...they generally try to peck our dogs nose, as he stick it in the eglu as soon as i open the egg hatch door to look

...im sure when they do peck him he wont do it again
