kayandrob
Help Please I have 3 13 week old pekins and my lavender isn't well. I went out to let them out and she didnt want to come out, I coaxed her out and picked her up and her crop feels empty, she is holding her neck in and doesnt look right. I caught one of the others pecking at her eyes but we have never had any issues before, she seems really sleepy, I have checked the Eglu and everything seems ok, checked her over and seems like I can't find anything wrong. Only thing that was different is hubby bought some live meal worm this weekend and he fed them this morning and put a load in with their food! Has anyone got any advice please? I am really worried about her Edited October 6, 2008 by Guest
Egluntyne
I would bring her in and keep her warm. If you can encourage her to drink it will keep her hydrated. If she is reluctant, you could use a dropper or a syringe for administering baby medicine, which you could get from the supermarket. It might be worth trying her with sloppy porridge made with pellets and water if you can. TBH, with her being so young, I'd take her to the vet tomorrow if she seems no better. At such a very young age, they don't really need anything to eat other than their pellets.
kayandrob
thanks for the reply I managed to get hold of the lady I got her from and sent her a pic and she said to try and get her to vets, luckily vets were still open till 6.30 and they waited for us to get there, she has had antibiotics and have to ring the vet tomorrow to discuss how she is. At the mo we have kept her in tonight and she is in the cat carrier in our bedroom, I have put her some food and water and put straw in for her, I dusted with diatom too and she was pecking away at that when I popped her in. She seemed a bit perkier but I dont want to tempt fate, I just hope she is ok, she is my fav Fingers crossed xxx

kayandrob
Hi, well Betty is still very poorly, she hasn't eaten today and isn't drinking much I bought some Coxoid after ringing Retford Poultry (advice from Poultry Chat forums) and she thought it sounds like Betty is suffering from Cocci so we are treating all of their water and keeping Betty separate, Betty finally did a poo this evening too and it was a white watery one, not sure what that means! I am so gutted as she is a lovely little bird, if she is no brighter tomorrow the vet said she will see her in the morning, I just hope she doesn't fade away in the night. kayandrob
Hi Sorry haven't been on sooner, we have been back to vets this morning and then spent rest of time scrubbing the Eglu out and moving it onto the lawn just in case. She is ok but still not eating and is very miserable I think she is missing her friends too so we have popped her back in with them for a while, I have tried all sorts of things to coax her to eat but no joy just have to see how she goes I guess. xx

Egluntyne
I would bring her in, keep her warm and syringe water into her beak if she isn't drinking.
kayandrob
I have had her in the house since Thurs evening, I pop her back with the others when I let them out for a bit in the afternoons because I think she is quite lonley and she tries to keep up with them but she is so slow now, I have had her on my lap for about an hour syringing her the medicated water but she didn't have much, I am so worried about her I really don't know what it could be. Ain't Nobody Here
Sorry to hear about poor Betty . Is she any better this morning?
kayandrob
Morning She seems the same this morning, I have kept her in again while I am at work, will pop home again at lunch and check her, vets haven't a clue whats wrong with her though, they don't treat chickens normally so she has stressed she isn't an expert, will let you know how she is at lunch time xx
Mollystar
Sorry she's poorly I hate to say it but mine was the same last week, just gave up, it was hard to watch her suffer & in the end the BF took the decision to end it. I hope yours improves & recovers.
Sandychick
Sounds like she is being well looked after. There is a vet in Solihull which was recommended recently for chickens on this link viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32004 Really hope she improves soon. kayandrob
Unfortunately Betty is no longer with us Friday she still wasn't eating and looked so skinny, I popped her back in with the others and she couldn't even walk, the test results from the vet didn't show anything so we still don't know what was the matter. I made the decision to put her to sleep, she had given up, my 2 year old is very upset that Betty has gone and keeps asking where she is bless him, it really has broken my heart she was such a lovely chicken Thank you to everyone who offered advice and for all the support.
