Not sure what to do next . .

Recommended Posts

The excitement of putting together my new purple cube has been overshadowed by a poorly hen. I let all chooks out to freerange and poor little Flora was a hunched up and disinterested in the garden, not her usual self. She has passed a yolk and some egg white which was quickly devoured by the others. No sign of any shell. There was egg white dripping out of her bottom which the others started pecking at. I have put the others into the new cube run leaving Flora in the big walk in run on her own so she could have some peace and quiet. She did perk up a bit but has since fluffed up again. She has a place to sleep, water and food.

What now???

She hasn't laid a softie before. I'm not 100% positive she's even laid before as the four newbies all came into lay within a week of each other and I don't know who lays what - all the eggs are small and brown.

I've been out to check her again and she was hapily roosting. I've put her in with the others to keep cosy and warm. I'm up early in the morning and I'll separate her again if she still looks unwell. Will double up on grit and add calcium.

thanks . . .

Pleased to hear Flora has perked up :) .

My Maisie looked a bit miserable last week, hunched up and not herself. She laid a yolk and some white poured out of her rear end (onto my slipper  ). We washed her bottie (and blow dried it - she stood on my knees quite happily enjoying the makeover!) and she was right as rain the next day.
