Wendyg
Hi, Can anyone help me. We currently have 4 lovely girls (2 Rangers and 2 Miss Pepperpots), we would love to add to the happy family and add a girl that lays blue eggs , can anyone suggest a breed that lays good blue eggs. Eggstatic!
I have heard that 80% of columbines lay blue/green eggs, the other 20% lay pastel colours.
Cinnamon
I have a Cream legbar who lays china blue eggs. She is a pure breed & will stop laying over the winter. I also have 2 Columbines, one of whom came into lay yesterday ( ), & her egg is a nice green colour (see my thread below) I would suggest getting at least 2 hens to add to your flock,as the introduction of a single hen could be particularly difficult, time consuming & nerve wracking! Omletina Kyckling
I have two Merrydale Crested hybrids (same as columbines/skylines), one lays beautiful blue eggs, the other green....they are very flighty birds though and not as friendly as my gingernuts (actually one is friendly the other won't come anywhere near me!) KAZAROO
I too will be looking to add to my flock- hubby surprised me with a norfolk chicken house delivered this morning. I would like blue egg layers and a couple of silkies for broodies..... Can anybody recommend a good breeder/suppler near Gatwick airport? ubereglu
I have a cream legbar, she's a really good layer, but doesn't lay where she's supposed too, so her eggs are always grubby when I find them!
Egluntyne
I have 4 Fenton Blues who will allegedly lay blue eggs. They are too young just yet.
Chook n Boo Mum
Can anybody recommend a good breeder/suppler near Gatwick airport? Hi Kazaroo, I don't know how close you are to Gatwick, we used Golden Valley Poultry who are near Hindhead (we live near Chichester so quite a way for us too!); they are lovely people and our chooks are adorable! Website is http://goldenvalleypoultry.co.uk/, have the sound on your comp for full effect! Aaah, I'm a twit - having re-read the postings you want breeds which I'm not sure they carry as standard! Worth a call though as they do have others occasionally & if they don't, would probably be able to recommend someone who does! Sorry, must wake up before I start posting...! Love your chickens & dogs signature - could be written for me!!! Good luck with filling your new house, keep us posted. Sha x
KAZAROO
Thanks for the reply Wild mum! Tbqh I really am not that bothered about what I have; testing the water has thrown up a few links so will be looking to expand in the spring- in the meantime I am going to keep an eye open for anybody down sizing or end or lays.... Chook n Boo Mum
Having got to grips with my three feathered monsters, I've got myself a second previously-loved eglu & just got confirmation that our names are on the waiting list for a set of ex-batts, which was my first thought when I decided to get chooks. As I have 3 labs too (and 2 children, 1 hubby - and a scratchy neighbour who didn't want me to get them in the first place, but now is happy to dig worms for them when we are away!!! ) I decided to go for the "bomb proof" variety rather than ones who need extra TLC from the word go.
