Jaack
hia, i have just bought a large double tier rabbit hutch and i thought that it would be better if i got a pair of rabbits instead of just the one. I was thinking of getting a male and female and letting them have a set of babies and i would then castrate/spay the adults. Would they still get on after this happened or would i be better off just getting a pair of females? thankss
catherinee99
Why have a litter first? Surely it would be kinder to have them neutered before they are sexually active. A pair will be fine once neutered. Two females should also be neutered anyway for their wellbeing.
The Dogmother
It is not advisable to 'let them have a litter'; rabbit breeding by anyone other than expert breeders is frowned upon by most vets because of the difficulties in birthing and the high likelihood of the kits being maimed by one or other of the parents. Vet advice is that a mixed sex pair make a good combination, but that BOTH buns need neutering asap, and are kept apart until that time. Both my females are neutered as entire does have a high incidence of uterine cancer. You will also find a marked improvement in the behaviour of any bunny once it has had the snip. pepe
Please don't breed there are so many unwanted rabbits, if you go to a rescue centre Im sure you would find an already bonded pair, already vaccinated and neutered/spayed.
