Diana1
I love my eglu, I love my chickens. My eldest hen hasn't laid for over year. She's recently had some sort of gut infection. Speckledy rose has scaley leg. I had them both checked out at the vet and it cost £62 I am worried that Angel's little life isn't worth the expense of further vet bills. I might have to find out how much it costs to put her out of her misery. She is looking a bit better following the antibiotics but she is quite thin. I am letting them free range a lot more and this is helping. Pirate has been broody twice in the last six months and seems to be moulting again so no eggs from her for ages. Speckledy rose was broody in May and a tad annoying with no eggs then. These hens are the first pets I have ever had and I am realising that I am not an egg farmer Part of me thinks I should upgrade to an eglu cube, have more chickens, more eggs and hopefully they won't all be broody or ill at the same time. C'est la vie

I wouldn't bet on it! See my post in the Eggs thread "a bit shocked". I've only got 2 hens but Janty and Ajuff have lots more hens and not many more eggs..... Janty
It's true. I have 19 monsters but this week I have averaged six eggs a day. Now that's OK because we knew what we were doing when we got mainly pure breeds. I like to think that my girls are things of beauty.
