Patridge bantam chicken poorly foot?

can someone tell me what signs to look out for to let me know if my girls are on their way to laying ?

Their combs and wattles tend to become larger and much redder. Also they may start to crouch (you can't miss it, they'll stick their elbows out, flatten their backs and do a cute little bum wiggle ).

 

I say "tend" and "may" as some lay with neither of these signs .

They also start eating massive amounts of food and drinking more.

 

The nice thing about them crouching is that you can pick them up easily.

thanks for the replies. my one girl is doing all those things but her comb doesn't seem as big as i've seen on other pepperpots on the gallery

We had our first egg today - and had noticed a couple of days ago that one of the ladies was going off on her own more - usually the 3 of them tear around the garden together, but she had shunned such childish behaviour and was keeping herself to herself. Having found the first egg, I notice that her her comb is (seemingly suddenly) much bigger than the other two and looser and redder.
