sneezy wheezy hens really worried if anyone could help

Recommended Posts

Have you tried apple cidar vinegar or some citricidal in their water? One of mine sneezes quite a lot and I used to worry terribly but I have discovered its when I use straw and it gets too dusty for her

If its not sounding like a general sneeze, they may need a a trip to the vets for some antibiotics. I think our vet gave to us Tylan last year when we had the same thing.

Good luck, hope your hens are ok :D

Hi

Henrietta has stopped and is pottering around the garden. Geraldine has gone back into the run and is making growling type noises. i managed to shoo her out and picked her up, her crop is full but quite softish and when i was holding her she was wheezing and breathing through her beak.

I have posted on chicken clinic as well as here as i didnt know about the clinic until i noticed it on the forum list afterwards. But any advice would be welcome.

What is citricidal? I will ring our local country store and see if they have any.

Thanks

you can get citricidal in the omlet shop, it's grapefruit seed extract and is good for coughs and colds. If she's wheezing though I think you should take her to the vet, sounds more like a chest infection than the snuffles. she may need antibiotics.

You can also get citracidal from Health food shops ie.Holland and Barratt etc.

My girls were like this and I got some. Add 1 or 2 drops to a full glug. It is very bitter so not much more than that!

Make sure they are well hydrated as they can go down quite quickly otherwise.

One of my girls did need Baytril (antibiotics from the vet) as she stopped eating and drinking and was chesty.

They're all fine now. :)

Hope yours get well again soon
