darrenschickens
While parting feathers and examining my hens I've noticed a couple with lice. About 2mm long, 1mm wide and yellow in colour running around at the base of the feathers. If I go to the pet shop I'll probably only find a treatment aimed at pet birds like budgies. Am I best off grabbing something like that and treating the birds as soon as possible or waiting to get hold of a treatment mentioned in the locked part of the forum - Barrier red mite powder or Poultry shield? Christian
Pet shops sell Johnsons Lice spray - a white can with a budgie on it - that will do the trick. Be warned though, use in a well ventilated area, it stinks! edited to add - viewtopic.php?f=41&t=24048&view=unread#unread
Gamebird
I use Xeno 200 It should be noted that it is not licenced for poulty use in the UK. However, a lot of people on this forum use it. About 7 sprays on the back of the chicken's neck does the trick. It is also recommended that there should be a 7 day egg withdrawal period but I have eaten these eggs with no side effects (well, not that I've noticed. ) So far I have not had any problems with lice.
