Hi

Can someone help?

I have a (green eglu) New from Omlet in July. I have great trouble getting it back togeather after cleaning it.

When it was delivered the Omlet man had trouble getting it togeather too. The metal bar that goes across the bottom wouldn't line up with the cover. He got it togeather and said it was probably because it was new and would settle down. It hasn't!

I've just spent half an hour trying to get the ***** thing back togeather  crawling about in the mud on my hands and knees. The green cover just doesn't line up with the bar. I eventually managed to do it by somehow lifting the bottom of the cover whilst laying almost on top of the eglu, an arm each side. One trying to hold the cover in place and the other trying to push the bar through :wall:

All this with 3 chickens supervising and I swear laughing at me (and probably the neighbours too)

Everybody else has said their Eglu is so easy to clean and put back togeather. There is no way I am doing that on my own again, my ribs and shoulder are going to need a few days to recover.... and maybe a glass of wine.

Does anybody else have this trouble? It's not on uneven ground and I really can't see what else I can do to make it easier.

I'm saving up for a cube now and I really don't think I could manage if I'm going to have the same problem :(

Please help

Oh dear, I'm sorry you're having so much difficulty, in my experience my eglus were usually fairly simple to take apart and reassemble. Occasionally if I took the metal bar too far out I'd have difficulty realigning it correctly to push it back through again...those occasions were fun :roll::roll: , but of course I usually only pulled it out far enough to release the top bit, and always kept the end of it in view.

Perhaps you pulled the bar out too far? If so then I'd suggest literally just pulling it back a smidgeon, enough to pull it away from the top of the eglu and no further, so that the end of the bar can still be seen at the base of the eglu....that way it should be easier to push it back into position when you've finished cleaning.

If that really doesn't work then I don't really know. All I can suggest is that maybe it's got slightly bent somewhere :? , and it may be worth giving Omlet a call for some advice.

Hi

Many thanks for the replys.

I don't think I'm pulling the bar through too much, it comes out of the grey base fine just the green cover doesn't line up.

I've tried a big brick and another person to hold the bar in while I try to get the cover in the right place but it still didn't meet and took a large amount of jiggling to get it back togeather. :wall:

I really am having trouble moving my arms today :boohoo: I think I'll send Omlet an email and see if they have any ideas.

Thanks for your help

Lucy

I've had this problem before too. When the green top of the eglu is in place is the top handle you use to close the door centred in the middle properly? If it's not, then a simple solution is to jam a paving slab or brick underneath the back of the grey base, then it centres it properly and I didn't have any trouble.

Or if this isn't the case then maybe once you've pushed the black bar in as far as it will go and you aren't seeing the other end of it push gently against the side of the cover-then you'll find the hole to put the pin through.

Does that make sense?

Hi

Yes that makes sense.

In the middle of my swearing rant I should have thought of wedging something in at the back.

The cover seems to all line up properly, the handle to shut the door is in the centre and there are no gaping gapes when I look in the eglu. But when I push the bar through it comes out about half an inch above the hole in the cover. I have to lift it and turn it all sorts of angles untill I get it to line up and then some how push the bar through. Then I can see daylight when I look through the egg door, where the cover meets the base. Is that right?

When I can move again and have some help (as back up) I'll try wedging something at the back to see if that works.

Thanks Lucy.
