GreenGirl
Now it is has been properly cold we have had the fire going every evening and now have a beautiful pile of white wood ash. I recall reading somewhere that this could be used in the girls dust bath, is this right? It is very fine, so not sure whether it would need to be mixed with something else otherwise the chooks might look like they are ready for Halloween fancy dress as ghosts
Christian
Where did you hear that Greengirl? I always use the ash from my open fire and the chickens follow me when they see the ash bucket, to get in the dust bath first! It is said to help prevent scaley leg mite too They do come out looking slightly pale, but soon shake it off
GreenGirl
ah, maybe it was at yours I suppose I was worried as it seemed so fine, I was thinking about them breathing it in
Christian
I did worry about that the first time I used it, but they have been dust bathing in it for a year or so now and love it. I used to mix it with fine compost, but they prefer 'pure' ash I shouldn't worry about them breathing in dust, as the amount of red mite powder I use is shocking (mainly because I am addicted to the smell )
GreenGirl
that's true, i am on my third tub already, (plus all the louse powder and DE just in case ) there is something about the smell and looking all nice and protected from creepies
