Joojoo
Well I've got a bit of a weird problem. We replaced the antiquated faceplate of a 13amp socket in the hall on Thursday. Everything was fine, until I plugged the circular saw into it. Worked ok for about an hour then it tripped (or so we thought). Checked the fuse box, all the trips were as they should be but the socket was completely dead. Thought we must have damaged the socket so we have just replaced the face again and it's still not working Is there anyone out there who has any idea what's happened? All the other sockets are working fine in the house. It's just this one. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance Jue
Mrs Frugal
Hi Jue, This may sound like a silly question but you're not plugging the same circular saw into the socket to test that it's working, are you? If so, could it be the saw that's gone belly up rather than the socket?
Joojoo
Hi Kate Thanks for your suggestion, but it's definitely not the saw. I've tried it in another socket and it's working fine and tried other bits and pieces in the dodgy one and nothng works I just haven't got a clue what to do with it. Snowy
If you haven't sorted it by then, I'll ask OH when he gets in from work. Be about 6:30 ish
Joojoo
Thanks Snowy. I've abandoned it for now and am concentrating on the painting instead. Flipping thing!!! If your OH has got any advice I really would appreciate whatever he can tell me. Thanks Jue x
ubereglu
That sounds odd, have you checked the wires behind the socket and that they're properly connected? When we came back from the Bath and West show we had a power surge and it knocked out the time switch on the boiler and the downstairs hallway light. Luckily someone from my Dad's model railway group is a retired electrician and together-after lots of lifting up of floorboards and digging around they got it sorted-I've still no idea how! I think one of the wires wasn't properly attached to a switch or something, but they couldn't find the other end!
Snowy
Sorry not to get back to you straight away Joojoo. But I don't think it's much help - he says it's either a problem with the socket or the wires into the socket Sorry!
Joojoo
Thanks both I posted on another (trade) forum and they think it could be a problem with the socket upstairs that this one is spurred off so it's an electricians visit I'm afraid. Thanks anyway Jue
