Patridge bantam chicken poorly foot?

At the moment I have aubiose in the eglu and cube runs. It works great apart from the fact that the big girls love to dig and when you add in sideways rain I'm ending up with a big muddy mess!

 

When they are out free ranging they seem to like digging about in my gravel path so I wondered about putting onto a gravel base for the winter? I guess a concrete base/slabs with aubiose on top would be ideal but i'm not sure my DIY skills are up to that!

 

Has anyone used gravel?

My friend has just moved hers onto her gravel path for the winter and they love it - scratchable, weeds to eat and easy to hose down.....

I have wondered about whether or not the dissolved poo lingers under the gravel and would start to whiff a bit.
