How Quickly Does Albendazole Work?

This has probably been talked about before, but why do thy keep doing this??

 

They used to do it when we first got them, then they stopped for ages and now they have taken to doing it again. It's not as if the door is closed and they can't get out to have a poo!

 

Is this just laziness or do they keep doing it because, like a fool, I get my hand in there each morning and pick it all out??

Just cause they are chickens

 

They dont come out till the daylight is through so if they need to go then they need to go as they are eating nearly all day long. There is more now there is less daylight

mine quite like perching on the ridge between the nest and perch area of their eglu cube. It seems to be that the ones higher in the pecking order like this spot - goodness knows! They don't know where you want them to pooh!! feels like that sometimes when you've put fresh bedding in, hey?!

It is a real pain when they do that .

 

I keep a small plastic food scoop attached with a bulldog clip to the run beside the eggport - makes scooping poops easier in the mornings!

hehe i wish they would go out for a pooh! i dont think you can potty train chucks tho.... i put an upturned flowerpot in the nest box at night, i dont mind pooh flicking a little in the morning but 4 chucks worth isnt funny at 7am. didnt nip out quite early enough this morning tho...the chucks let themselves out of the eglu but smeegal had layed her egg on the roosting bars and that was before 7.30am! very unusual for her. She wont lay in a poohy nest box anyways thankfully

I know what you mean it drives me

my girls nest box has the mount everest of pooh in it every morning , I know its Wilma as she roosts on the edge if the nest rim of a night time being top chook she likes to look down on those beneath her

it gets worse... Muffin has been broody for a good 2 weeks, so spends the night (and all day if she were allowed) in the nest bit. twice now I have scooped her out in the morning to plonk her in the broody cage - only to discover that one of the others has pooed on her!!!!!! lots of bad words followed yuk.

then there is the question of whether to bathe her: as she is a silky and the weather isnt nice I havent done it and she seems to clean herself up OK. but nothing is nastier than expecting to pick up a fluffy chook and getting a handful of poo instead.

We have the same problem - over he summer Hattie was the only one to sleep in the nest box (and only for 7 hours per nigh) - i didn't have the heart to turf her out... she looked som comfy

 

Now 3 of them pile in there from 5pm to 7pm it's like pooh city in there in the morning. We block off the door to the nest box every afternoon now when they aren't looking

think I'm going to go with ANH's plastic scoop idea from now on!!!

I think the problem is made worse by the perches and nestbox being the same height in an eglu or cube - whereas in other hen houses if the perches are high up and nest boxes low down they like to sleep higher up so will actually perch at night!
