little chickadee
I'm after some suggestions for things you lot cook on an open fire, and exactly how to do it. My Hubbie loves cooking toast and marshmallows (seperately I hasten to add) , and I've just bought him this. http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/lifestyle-home/bbq-garden/diablo-sandwich-toaster/ It was supposed to be for Christmas, but the other day, he kept going on about how he wanted a cheese toastie but our electric toastie maker is broken. I really didn't want him going out and buying a new one, so I let him have this early. It really works well, and of course tastes much better because it's cooked on the open fire! Any other ideas of what we can cook. (I've also got him a chestnut pan for Christmas, but don't tell him! ) Edited November 9, 2008 by Guest
Chook n Boo Mum
Hi LC, With the cubs a few weeks ago, we made kind of a sweet bread mix, which we squidged onto the end of sticks & cooked them over the fire - provided they weren't cremated, they were lovely - would, I'm sure, be improved though with a dollop of butter & strawberry jam - yummy! I have a copy of the Happy Campers book which has several wonderful recipes to cook over an open fire http://www.thehappycampers.co.uk/ The website doesn't actually have many recipes on it, but does have details for the book. It's my "back to nature/feel good" book. I've read most of it several times! If you like, I'll dig it out & put some on here for you....wonder where I left it last!! Love the toastie maker, my DS who's a pyromaniac, sorry a Scout, would love that! Do you mind me asking how much it was? Sha x

little chickadee
He loved it thanks! It was £19ish I believe. I can't remember where I bought it from - I think I managed to find somewhere with fairly cheap postage. I put a link to somewhere which sells them in my original post, but just google diablo toast and you should find a multitude to sites to look at. I'd love some of those recipes please
