2 weeks in...

Recommended Posts

It has been 2 weeks since the (green eglu) and chickens arrived – and I am loving every minute of it! I can’t believe the things that I have learned in those 2 weeks – despite reading this website from back to front!

1. Whole raisins bad – raisins cut up into 2 or 3 pieces good

2. Raw cauliflower leaves disgusting – cooked ones are fantastic! (Father-in-law not impressed - chickens are farm stock not pets you know!!)

3. Dried corn is very good – but sweetcorn is on a whole different level!

4. Simply buying Garlic powder is not enough to stop the poo’s smelling – you do actually have to add it to the feed…

5. A combination of Potato, Weetabix and Fireworks gives them the runs… :vom:

6. Chickens will eat ANYTHING that is hidden in mash.

7. Anything sparkly might be food – take off rings when outside.

8. Chickens like to stick together – more than 1m apart and get all panicked!

9. Once my chickens are in bed, nothing will entice them out - not even corn. Not fair with the dark evenings when I want to play!

10. Paving slabs stop rodents - (still hoping might have been mice…..)

11. Chickens make you very popular with friends, all wanting to visit suddenly!

12. Hugging a chicken REALLY warms up your hands!!

13. And their personalities?? Are fantastic! They are so quirky and individual!!

I can’t remember life before Chickens!! If only the garden was a bit bigger….

Looks like you have caught the bug! They are so addictive. I started 3 years ago with 2 girls in an eglu. I now have a walk in run, a cube and 7 girls. I'd have more but not enough space like you. Am now planning on moving to a house with an acre or two in the future (OH wants this too thankfully) so there is no telling how many I'll end up with eventually!

Welcome the the wonderful world of hen happiness :D:D:D

ps do you have pictures of your girls yet?

No pictures on the computer yet, unfortunately... I have yet to work out how to do that bit!! But sufiice to say that of course they are absolutely gorgeous, and wouldn't swap them for the world! (Even if they have eaten all my winter pansies... :? )
