Cinnamon
I have made my cake & want to marzipan & ice it in peaks. In the Mail on Sunday weekend magazine this weekend, there is a picture of exactly how I would love my cake to look Its very simple. It looks like it has a gold glitters star on the top, which I can find anywhere that sells tree decorations I guess, & a sort of sprinkled gold leaf scattered around it. This is the bit I am having trouble with I can find gold ebible glitter & gold sheet leaf but not the sort of leaf you can sprinkle. I don't really want to buy the sheet leaf & snip it up in case id goes wrong & looks odd Any ideas?
Nicola H
No too sure Sarah, I have seen the cake in the Mail and it looks great. I noticed that Hobbycraft have a lot of cake decorating stuff in at the moment I wonder if they might have what you are looking for.
Cinnamon
Good idea - I will pop in & have a look. I wanted to go & check out glass paint prices anyway
Mrs Webmuppet
There is an Ebay shop called Words and Wishes that has edible gold food colouring. I've used them several times and they've been a reliable company.
Lesley
I was going to say Ebay shops as well - there are quite a few cake decorating ones. Make sure whatever you get is edible and not just non-toxic - there's quite a difference!
Lydia
As it happens I have the Mail on Sunday this week as my sister is in it, however, I can't see the cake you mean. However, I do about 11 sugarcraft type cakes a year and there are a couple of super sugarcraft shops in Ready that sell everything you could possibly ever need for any type of cakes. Need A Cake in Woodley is the biggest and better one and more likely to have lots of stuff. However, Frostings in Twyford (Station Road) is also good and Wendy will more than likely order in what you need. They are both shut on Wednesdays. PM me if you want any further details. Cinnamon
Brilliant Lydia, thanks. I know Need a Cake, so will try there first, after John Lewis where I am popping into this morning anyhow. It was in the Weekend magazine supplement, not the paper itself Your sister was in the paper? Can I be nosey & ask where she was?
Lydia
You can indeeed be nosey She was in the main paper bit on page 65. It was a very short piece on schemes like Oxfam Unwrapped and the like. The pic of her and the kids is good - the one with the girl (niece) on the trampoline. Good luck with the cake.
