helenmb
I have seen Orego-Stim recommended in a few places online and was wondering if anyone on the forum uses it for their girls. I have copied a few bits of info about it - I can find it for about £11.75 plus postage for 500ml and wondered if it was worth the cost? Orego-Stim® Smallholder is suitable for use from day old and throughout the life of the bird and is completely compatible with all other products including vitamins, minerals and grits.Drier droppings and cleaner perches Boosts egg production Better quality eggs Lengthens hens’ laying life Improves growth and uniformity in chicks and pullets Natural, safe and easy to use Residue and taint-free from the Orego-Stim website Orego-Stim is a 100% natural liquid administered to the drinking water. Produced from oil extracted from oregano. It cleans and replenishes the gut lining enabling more nutrients to be absorbed improving overall health and fitness. Provides significant improvement in the droppings Having tried various supplements on our free range hens to improve their condition, egg shell strength and general well being, we now use OREGO-STIM and are delighted with the results. Our hens refused to drink water with other supplements in, but from day one they accepted water with Orego-Stim added and it does not taint the eggs in anyway whatsoever. We no longer have faeces on the eggs when they are laid, and we have cleaner perches and nest boxes. Orego-Stim saves cleaning labour and cuts the usage and costs of egg sanitizer. Orego-Stim helps our hens through their moult and they are less stressed. Leg scale (red mite) is a thing of the past and thin egg shell rates have dropped from 9% to 1.75% from http://www.freedompoultry.co.uk/produce.htm Can be bought from http://www.merrydalepoultry.co.uk/accessories.htm
helenc
I have been using this for about 2 weeks, we got it in the larger size from Merrydale as my crested was broody and not eating well, plus being the smallest I was a bit concerned about her. Karen at Merrydale recommended it- my experience so far is that every one of the other 3 have laid every single day and at approx the same time of the day ( 2 of them were laying 6 days out of 7 and got later every day) They didn't have a problem with their poos as they have we used Bokashi from the start but have run out of that now so have just used the Orego-Stim and there has been no difference so it must be keeping the poos firm. They all seem very perky and happy. Hope that helps Helen
Old Speckled Hen
Oh Dear!!! Quote:Orego-Stim is a 100% natural liquid administered to the drinking water. Produced from oil extracted from oregano. It cleans and replenishes the gut lining enabling more nutrients to be absorbed improving overall health and fitness. Provides significant improvement in the droppings The body is a wonderful thing, your body, your dog's body and your chickens', There are wonderful homeostatic mechanisms in place. Why exactly does a normal gut lining need cleansing and replenishing when an organism is designed to do that itself? This and lots like it is hokum!! Layers mash/pellets, the odd treat, extra protein when moulting, medical care, clean accommodation, (ie good husbandry) is all that's needed. Oh, and lots of TLC as all our girls are pets. Egluntyne
They also seem to be suggesting that leg scale (sic) and red mite are the same thing.
