mictogirl Posted November 22, 2008 Share Posted November 22, 2008 After a long wait, we've finally got our girls They are currently having a good peck and scratch around the back garden - I was out there for quite a while with them but it's SOOOOO cold now I'm just watching from the window They have already destoyed the small flowerbed I've got my spring bulbs planted in so I'm definitely going to be ordering some omlet netting when we build the raised veg beds in the spring! We got them and their ark and everything from a couple who were splitting up and moving house, so even though they're ex-batts they already have all their feathers and are well settled in - so much so one of them went straight into the nesting box once I'd set it all up and I've just gone and collected our first egg I don't know about names yet, the bantam is called Tiny apparently (can anyone tell me what sort she is? She's so fluffy and pretty) but the others don't have names. I don't know them well enough yet to tell them apart either There's a few pics on our flickr site - check them out http://www.flickr.com/photos/mictoboy2006/ One question though - they have been doing fairly sloppy poos (no doubt from the stress of travelling) all over the garden, specially on the patio - what's the easiest way to get this off? 'Poo-picking' conjures up images off just picking it up which I guess you can with normal solid poo, but this is gross...... I expect you are right about the poop as the journey may have unsettled them. I expect they will be fine in a few days. Splatty poops are easiest to squirt off the patio with a hosepipe. When they get back to normal poops, poop picking is easy and consists of a plastic trowel and bucket and just flick them in and dump in the compost bin. Try some Bokashi Bran in with their feed itll help solidify their poo's up and diminish the smell too, my girls love it and it really does work. Actually I'm already feeling guilty for thinking Tiny is prettier than the other girls and secretly wanting pure breeds when we eventually get some more, though I want to do the right thing and get more ex-batts as well, AGH!
