Summers here At Last

Recommended Posts

Hi there omleteers, i don't want to make you jealous, I am just so relieved summers is here, Well we deserve it as, we emmigrated to NZ from UK in April, still cold and dark, and arrived here, to wet wet wet, no not the band thank god, i'd have been straight back on the plane, basically we had 2 winters in a row, With me being BI-Polar, it hasn't been the best 8 months, but it's all behind us now, as we plan our day at the beach today, getting the inflatable kayak out .

The one strange thing,I don't think i'll ever get used to is Christmas in summer, I forgot it was nearly christmas at all, til i walked into a bar the other day abd they had xmas decorations up, 'ohh christmas' i said out loud. :boohoo:

Hi Chickenkeeper, can you see me waving at you from the shores of Lake Rotorua. I hope you had a fandabbidozi day at the beach 8) . We've visited Mount Maunganui and Papamoa beaches in the past couple of weeks, and will be spending Christmas Day on Opotiki beach, hubby has got a bargain bach for the night through his work....so we're off down there Christmas Eve and the children will surf whilst hubby and I sort out the BBQ (and whoever hasn't drawn the driving short straw will quaff the Lindauer  ) for our Christmas lunch :D

How are you settling in? My hubby came over for work in Feb 08, I stayed in the UK until June, selling the house, packing and cleaning everything, oh, and trying to get our son through his GCSEs, and I arrived to rain, rain, rain. I swear I have never, ever known rain like it. I've seen a fair bit of rain in the UK, but I'm not convinced that the NZ rain ever actually eased from torrential for my entire first 6 weeks....all on a metal roof too  . I was lucky enough to have a few odd summery days before I left in June....but to be honest, not that many, so I really symathise with you and the back to back winters thing. I feel much the same. But, early days I know...but this summer is shaping up to be great 8) . I work in a dairy farming region and the farmers are already complaining about predicted droughts....and I do have a little sympathy for them, but most of the time I'm rubbing my hands with glee and muttering "bring it on":oops::oops:

We've had our ups and downs with settling here too, I genuinely think that you have to go through the process to really understand the enormity of it and the impacts it can have. For now we love it...we earn less here and what we earn doesn't stretch as far, but the lifestyle is awesome, and right now for us the positives outweigh the negatives, and we've no intention of returning to the UK for a good while yet, but it's all different, and that's hard to explain.....but I guess that you will understand. Do you check out any of the expat websites?

Maybe we should arrange the first Omlet DownUnder meet up
