Bondinho
Hi all, My appenzeller recently, so my vet and I thought, had mycoplasma - a short course of baytril cleared it up just over a month ago maybe. But 2 weeks ago it seemed to re-appear again, bubbles in her eye, sneezing, head shaking etc, but totally fine in herself other than the sneezes. So I took her to the vet again who gave another course of baytril for 7 days, twice daily. Unfortunately this time it hasn't cleared up. I'm not sure what to do, I've just bought some ACV and put it in the water so am going to see if this helps any. But other than that, I'm not sure what to do. Any advice? Is it worth going to the vet again (or a different vet)? Anything else other than baytril recommended for respiratory problems? Any help would be appreciated. The Dogmother
Get them to try her on Tylan rather than Baytril; Myco repsonds very well to that. Dose up their water with poultry tonic - I find Lifeguard to be the best, and but garlic powder in the feed. I am currently watching one of mine who is sneezing, she has never been a strong girl and every winter I think it might be her last. I hope that your girl gets better soon Bondinho
Bondinho
OK, thanks I'll try a different vet in Midsomer Norton this time, who is recommended in practical poultry, and tell them that baytril has not cured her on this second bout of illness and see if they suggest Tylan. I've been putting battles poultry tonic in their water for last few weeks but that's not helped from what I can tell. And already do the garlic powder, only just put ACV in yesterday. Like yours, she was never the liveliest/strongest out of my 5 so it wouldn't be a total shock if she didn't recover from this. Cheers. Perhaps try tylosin. I spoke to a friend who said once mycoplasma - always mycoplasma. It is chronic and needs to be managed. He advised steam inhalations and putting diatoms in the food.
