Embroidered bags

Recommended Posts

At last I've finished them! What? I hear you cry; The 8 personalised laundry bags I promised to make for DS's dorm-mates as their Christmas presents!

I started off with the plan to make 8 bags the same - except different names of course.... I had thought that old-fashioned shoebag style would be easy & quick, except having made one I decided that wasn't such a good idea as the stitching wouldn't hold up to the boys manhandling the rope when putting washing into and out of the bag, so tried to fashion a stronger "tube" for the rope to thread through - still not strong enough....and small boys could make much mischief with 1.5 metres of rope! ( I will probably adapt these two to match the others below - eventually :roll: !!)

Last idea (going through 3 incarnations of rope, same fabric handles and webbing handles), the remaining bags are all now larger carrier bags with handles at the top to hang them on their hooks.

And here is all the embroidered bits. Sorry it's not very clear as it's silver thread over gingham, which doesn't seem to want to photograph very well!

I hope this has all resized properly.....

p.s. What I didn't get a photo of was the yellow muppet, fast asleep on top of the beautifully placed laundry bags of the last photo..... :wall:

:shh: I've just adopted (!) a Janome Memory Craft 300E. :lol::dance:

At work, we used to monogram all the staff uniform shirts, but it's now cheaper etc to get them done professionally, so this little beauty was languishing in the back of a cupboard. The Boss (DH) liberated it for me, so now it sits with my little Brother sewing machine, awaiting my next project!

The names are all a bit wonky on the bags and varying sizes as I was getting to grips with the machine, somehow I don't think the boys will notice! DS & DD were both keen to help at the weekend & just sat mesmerised.

Thank you by the way, how rude not to acknowledge your compliment!! :whistle:

Fantastic - very professional. And what a lovely mix of names. I noticed especially that you did one for a "Nico". We have just adopted a wee boy of that name, which is considered an unusual name for a wee Scottish lad and lots of folk think he is from abroad - as a result we have noticed we have developed a tendancy to "Nico spot" and so far have found a chip shop and a barman and now your lovely laundry bag!

The latest tale I had from the dorm, was how the mattresses were removed from the beds and used as landing mats for the boys to land on :notalk: ....... having launched themselves off the top of the wardrobe!!! :shameonu:

And they wonder why their beds aren't very comfortable :think::wall:

And yes they do pillow fight, and because they haven't worked out that they should be quiet when they have them, they get into trouble for it too! That was one of their first tellings-off when they arrived at the school!!! :whistle:
